What day is it?

When I woke up this morning I was sure that it was Sunday. I looked at the clock, and was calculating how long I could stay in bed before we would have to get up and get ready for church.

Then I realised that it is actually Wednesday. It is also known as "Panic Day" in our house. When we first offered our large open-plan living room for weekly church meetings, so obviously everything has to be neat as a pin before the folks arrive. We have now got used to the routine, and rarely need to panic.

At the front of our house is a bold declaration that we are Christians. In our living room we have a pulpit sitting in the corner, next to the TV, and the tin of church songbooks.

The TV is used to display interesting information as we are studying passages in the Bible.
And we always have far more chairs that what we need for just the two of us.

So, on "panic day", as well as setting out the meeting room, and finding a few items for supper, I always do battle with the "Anaconda". The people who built this house, in their wisdom, decided to install a "valet vacuum cleaner". While that sounds nice and easy, like you have a valet who does the vacuuming for you, what it really amounts to is a 10 metre long hose to drag around behind. (And it has a mind of its own, twisting and knotting itself as it goes.)

There are three connection points in the house - like that white plate on the wall near the door - from which the vacuum head can reach into every point in every room. The big, noisy sucky thing is tucked away in the garage. (It still has to be emptied from time to time, though not as often as the normal vacuum bag.)

So, today is, in fact, WEDNESDAY. I have wrangled the Anaconda, and now I need to find something to set out for supper. We will have friends visiting with us tonight, and we love it.
